Chinese Steamed Fish

  • 1 whole fish (about 1.5 pounds, such as sea bass or tilapia)
  • 2 inches ginger, julienned
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Water for steaming

Instructions

  1. 1Clean and gut the fish, then pat dry with paper towels — 5 minutes
  2. 2Place the fish on a heatproof plate and sprinkle salt inside and outside — 2 minutes
  3. 3Stuff the fish cavity with half of the ginger and green onions — 2 minutes
  4. 4Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine in a small bowl — 2 minutes
  5. 5Pour the sauce mixture over the fish — 1 minute
  6. 6Prepare a steamer by bringing water to a boil — 5 minutes
  7. 7Place the plate with the fish in the steamer, cover, and steam for 10-12 minutes until cooked through — 12 minutes
  8. 8Remove the fish from the steamer and garnish with remaining ginger, green onions, and cilantro — 2 minutes
