Ingredients (one per line)
2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 cup milk 2 large eggs 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional) 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze) 1-2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions (one step per line)
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) — 10 minutes In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy — 5 minutes Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, beating well until combined — 2 minutes In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt — 2 minutes Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined — 3 minutes In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts — 2 minutes Pour half of the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan — 2 minutes Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the batter in the pan — 1 minute Pour the remaining batter over the brown sugar layer and spread evenly — 2 minutes Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar mixture on top of the batter — 1 minute Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean — 40 minutes Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes — 10 minutes In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk to create a glaze — 3 minutes Drizzle the glaze over the cooled coffee cake before serving — 2 minutes
